Spain truck strike hits CEPSA's phenol/acetone

LONDON (ICIS news)--CEPSA Quimica has reduced production at its phenol and acetone facilities in Huelva partly as a result of the Spanish truckers strike, a company source said on Thursday.

“We have reduced output at the plant in Huelva because we are having terrible problems in Spain,” said the source.

“Although we are integrated, we still need other products such as caustic soda,” the source added.

CEPSA Quimica, encompassing the newly merged subsidiaries of Ertisa, Interquisa and Petresa, declined to give specific figures in relation to its reduced operations.

The company produce a total of 600,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 370,000 tonnes/year of acetone at the Huelva site.

“The country is suffering from a lack of gasoline and food, a lorry driver was killed and trucks have been set on fire,” said the source.

CEPSA Quimica added that the decision to cut back on production had also been strongly influenced by ‘record crude, energy, logistical and haulage costs’.
